- Active:1891-1920▼Country:AHCity:FiumeShort name:OT1891 brought great changes in development of Hungarian sea shipping when subsidizing sea transport was laid on new ground according to the concept of the "ironminister" Gábor Baross. In due course several shipping companies were established. Among them was the Orient Hungarian Sea Nav. Co. Ltd. with three steamers to serve the Far-East trade. It was a venture founded by Fiumano traders and they also received state subsidy for their line services. Their fleet was further extended later. During the war the company's ships fell in Italian, American and French hands. There were only a few of them which could find shelter in neutral ports. The Fiume based Oriente became Italian already in 1919 to avoid dispossessions of British and French war indemnity commitees.
