The Hungarian Overseas Shipping Co. Ltd. was incorporated at Budapest in September, 1931. This was already the second venture which was established with the help of József Barta a Trieste shipowner and under supervision of captain Lajos Rákos. The company's single ship s/s RÁKÓCZI FERENCZ was listed in the shipregister of the Royal Hungarian Maritime Authority as num. 19. Her owner the London based Arbor Shipping Co. could not operate the only 5 years old ship in appropriate profitability during the years of the world crisis, so they accepted Barta's offer in order to keep their vessel. Value of the ship was compensated partly with mortgage in the shipregister and partly with with stocks of the newly established company and with seats in the board of directors. The venture could not satisfy demands of the British owners in spite of good Hungarian tax conditions and cheap crew so the ship gained back her original name and raised the Red Ensign again while she was deleted from the Hungarian register along with the morgage at the end of June, 1933.
